Echo – a tactile-sound walking tour, 2022

Curated by Alisa Nikolaeva, Sviyazhsk village

The object itself is a walking tour: each visitor of the exhibition can take a zine tour (a special booklet with a map) and go on a small journey around the island. Participants of the walking tour are invited to walk through the points indicated on the map and explore the sounds and tactile surfaces of the island. The purpose of the walking tour is to immerse oneself in the sound environment, to notice some details of the surfaces, to take note of what is hidden - the quiet life of the island, its natural environment. By the end of the tour, the participant finds him or herself in space through echo – the sound that reflects off the surface of a circular platform. This place, as well as some other interesting points in the walking tour, were suggested by locals in the process of joint exploration of the island: participants studied the sounds of Sviyazhsk by making sound maps (drawings of the surrounding sounds created by means of a special sound recording system) and tactile surfaces by taking casts using dental silicone. The results of this research are also presented in the exhibition. The object itself is a walking tour: each visitor of the exhibition can take a zine tour (a special booklet with a map) and go on a small journey around the island.
