“White Wall”, 2019
curator Peter Belyi
For "New Unknown"
Luda gallery, Saint-Petersburg
The project explores the white color of the gallery wall which is not white at all. The artist highlights this difference through sound.
Black squares with a hole in the center draw attention of the viewer to specific sections of the wall. The algorithm collects the data of the percentage of gray in each given area, immediately changing the sound and the pitch to reflect different values. The white level difference in the selected areas is thus scaled and made audible. A light indicator shows which area of the wall is being used to produce the sound at every given moment.
